Hard-Water and Wind Specification for a Namibian Installer: Thermosyphon Supply with Service Spares

Wide-riser collectors, thick tank insulation, roof-specific frames and a spares pack for a Namibian installer working in a hard-water region.

Case Overview

Namibia has some of the strongest sunshine anywhere, but also hard water, cool desert nights and gusty winds. A local installer wanted systems that would keep performing in hard water and be firmly secured on corrugated metal and flat roofs, to avoid callbacks. Millionsun adapted the standard thermosyphon system to these conditions and supplied it with the spares and guidance to maintain it.

Client Requirements

For the installer, the long-term issue was scale, and the risk of returning to site to rectify it.

  • Hard water: a design that copes with scale build-up.
  • Wind and cool nights: secure fixings and good insulation to retain heat overnight.
  • Two roof types: frames for corrugated sheet roofs and for flat roofs.
  • Service plan: parts and guidance for periodic maintenance.

Our Solution

We adapted the standard system to the installer’s environment.

  • Insulated tank: thick polyurethane insulation to retain heat through cooler nights.
  • Wide-riser collector design: absorber layout less likely to restrict flow as scale builds up.
  • Roof-specific frames: bracket kit for corrugated sheets and tubular frame for flat roofs, both with wind fixing points.
  • Maintenance notes: guidance on periodic flushing in hard-water areas, for the partner to pass on.
  • Spares pack: seals, anode and fittings packed with the shipment.
