Case Overview
Reunion Island has strong sun, steep terrain and a cyclone season, and roof safety carries a lot of weight in local practice. A local installer working with homeowners and housing contractors asked Millionsun to develop frames and mounting for a range of roof types, so they could offer solar water heaters that stay on the roof in severe wind and sit neatly on the building.

Client Requirements
For the installer, the biggest risk was a unit that failed or moved in a storm, which would cost them both the repair and the customer.
- Wind resistance: frames, tank saddles and collector fixings that stay in place in cyclone-season winds.
- Low-profile mounting: collectors that sit close to the surface on pitched metal roofs.
- Range of roofs: pitched, corrugated and flat roofs, from one supplier.
- Humid, coastal climate: materials with a long outdoor life.
Our Solution
We worked with the installer’s team to adapt our standard thermosyphon and collector range.
- Reinforced frames: galvanised frames with extra fixing points and diagonal bracing for tank and collectors.
- Low-profile mounts: brackets for corrugated metal roofs that keep arrays close to the roof surface.
- Protected finish: outer tank shell and fixings chosen for humid, coastal air.
- Fixing plans: a fixing layout for each roof type, so crews know where to anchor every frame.
- Collector build: aluminium frames, tempered glass and sealed edges, tested before shipment.

The Result
The installer now delivers solar hot water on a wide range of local roofs, with mounting designed around the island’s conditions.
- One supplier covers roof-integrated arrays and compact thermosyphon units.
- Fixing plans reduce on-site improvisation and the risk of storm damage claims.
- The mounting designs belong to the partner’s range and can be reused on future projects.
