One Flat Plate Collector Platform for a Canadian Installer: Commercial Roofs and Homes

How Millionsun helped a Canadian solar thermal installer replace several suppliers with one OEM collector platform, matched frames and technical support.

Case Overview

A Canadian installer was quoting two quite different kinds of work: long tilted arrays on low-slope commercial roofs, and small arrays on pitched house roofs. Each type of job had its own supplier, its own spare parts and its own paperwork. They asked Millionsun to consolidate the range into one collector platform, with matching frames and fittings built to their specification, so that their sales team could quote faster and their crews could install the same way on every roof.

Client Requirements

The partner’s main pressures were on cost of callbacks, installation time and the short seasonal window for roof work.

  • Cold-climate reliability: a collector build that holds up through freeze–thaw cycles, so warranty callbacks stay low.
  • Roof-friendly mounting: frames that can be ballasted on membrane roofs, to avoid roof penetrations and disputes with building owners.
  • One parts family: the same connectors, headers and fixings across commercial and residential jobs.
  • Engineering data: collector test data and drawings that the partner’s engineers and clients’ consultants could rely on.

Our Solution

We treated the project as a supply-chain simplification first, and a manufacturing task second.

  • OEM collector build: collector specification agreed with the partner, with their labelling and carton marking, so the product reads as their own range.
  • Frame engineering: galvanised support frames in the tilt angles they needed, with ballast layout drawings for each roof type.
  • Matched fitting kits: headers, couplers and manifold connectors supplied with the collectors, so row pipework is identical from job to job.
  • Batch-level test records: every collector leak-tested before packing, with records kept by batch for traceability.
  • Packing by array: cartons and pallets marked by roof section, so crews can unload and stage without sorting.
  • Technical support: loop sizing and layout checks by our engineers before each order was released.

OEM & private label

Your brand on tanks, collectors, cartons and manuals, built to your specification and tested before dispatch.

Parts & components

Controllers, pump stations, fittings and spare parts supplied with or after the shipment, so your crews are never stuck.

Technical support

Sizing and layout checks, installation drawings, training material and after-sales help for your engineers and installers.

The Result

The partner now works from a single product set across both project types, and our team acts as their back-office engineering and production support.

  • Quotes are quicker, because the same collector, frame and fitting list applies to most jobs.
  • Fewer on-site adaptations and callbacks, since the parts are designed to join up the same way every time.
  • Batch test records give the partner something concrete to show consultants and building owners.
